This page contains some general information about the wordpress instance running dfri.se.
Wordpress best practices
Please write general tips on the dedicated how to wordpress page on the blog.
Configuration
No information yet.
Plugins
These plugins are, or have been in use. Here's some motivation to using them, or not. If there are changes, it would be very nice if the they are reflected here.
Advanced Sidebar Menu
We have a relatively deep content structure. This allows to show it on the side.
Avatar Privacy
Don't use gravatar for comment images.
BAW Easy Invitation Codes
Used to filter out bad account registration, by using a static, human parseable "invitation code". It is displayed for new users on the registration page, and just needs to be copy-pasted.
Broken Link Checker
Adds strike to broken links. Sometimes links reported as broken are not, but guess it's up to admins to check and update links if there are indications that they are broken.
Change Permalink Helper
Allows changing of permalink urls.
Disable Embeds
Not sure if/how this works.
Easy WP SMTP
Used to send emails from wordpress. Exactly which emails is unknown, but presumably comment approval emails.
PDF & Print by BestWebSoft
Probably installed to help generate meeting note export to pdf. Presumed to be best left disabled, as it keeps prompting to upgrade to a paid version. Not useful since the theme update made in 2015.
PuSHPress
Usage unknown.
qTranslate-X
Used to provide the site in both Swedish and English.
Redirects
Manually add redirects from old to new urls. Used for at least on case where a page URL needed to be "prettier" than it ended up being at first.
Relative URL
Used to rewrite internal links from absolute to relative. Should help when serving the site over both HTTPS and a Tor .onion address. Status unclear after the wordpress site/theme update during 2015. Should it be re-enabled to increase .onion support?
Remove Uploads Filter
Used to remove some file type limitations; in particular when the DFRI logotype was uploaded in illustrator format. Can be disabled by default, and enabled only if an admin needs to upload something special.
Social
Provides integration with twitter (and facebook); used by Twitter Tools.
Currently disabled. One useful feature would be that it adds "twitter card" details, which would make tweets much prettier.
Twitter Tools
Pull in tweets/retweets with links to dfri.se pages/posts as "social comments'.
Upcoming Events Lists
Used to keep a list of upcoming events in the right hand column.
WordPress Access Control
More fine-grained access control; used to allow "blog editors" separately from "blog admins".
WP-GNU social
Pulling in comments from @dfri@quitter.se. Untested so far.
WP-Print
Adds CSS styles for print. Not useful since the theme update made in 2015.
